Volunteering with NOTL Horticutural Society

Thank you for exploring the idea of becoming a active member of the Niagara-on-the-Lake Horticultural Society.

We are one of the oldest horticultural groups in Ontario!

We are an entirely volunteer-run charity organization and rely on the energy, enthusiasm, creativity and many other talents of our member volunteers. For more than 100 years our mission is to encourage and educate members and the public about gardening, horticulture, and the environment.

We pride ourselves on being an inclusive group, where everyone — from novice to expert gardeners — will find a warm welcome among fellow garden enthusiasts. We are a fun group that long time locals as well as newcomers find as a rewarding organization in which to belong.

As to volunteering - your involvement is entirely up to your interests and time.

We have something for everyone.

As you continue to explore the world of gardening with us, we invite you to mark your calendars for two of our most anticipated annual fundraising events.

On May 10, 2025, join us for our Annual Plant Sale, a fantastic opportunity to acquire new plants and connect with fellow gardeners.

Later, on July 12, 2025, experience the beauty of local gardens during our Gardener's Garden Tour.

Both events not only showcase the best of Niagara-on-the-Lake's horticultural community but also offer wonderful opportunities to volunteer and get involved.

As a member of the Niagara-on-the-Lake Horticultural Society, you can take great pride in the many ways we contribute to our community. From our Flowers for Seniors program, which brings joy to local seniors with beautiful floral arrangements, to our annual scholarships supporting students at Niagara College and the Niagara Parks School of Horticulture, your involvement helps foster a greener and more connected community. We also inspire the next generation of gardeners through youth programs like the Royal Oak initiative.

And our community gardens continue to grow. In addition to our garden on the corner of William and Nassau, which was designed to support native pollinators and promote biodiversity, we're pleased to announce a new community garden behind the library, which will provide a beautiful and educational space for residents to enjoy. These efforts not only beautify our town but also strengthen its sense of community. For all of these projects we call on our members to roll up their sleeves, bring out the garden tools and help work in the community gardens. The benefit to you aside from the satisfaction of giving back, is that you will be surrounded by skilled gardens that you can learn techniques and tips to take back to your own home garden.

We invite you to join us for our monthly meetings, held on the fourth Tuesday of each month (January to May and September to November) at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Community Centre. Doors open at 6:00 p.m., and meetings begin at 6:30 p.m.

Our meetings are a wonderful opportunity to connect with fellow gardening enthusiasts and learn from expert speakers who will share their insights on horticulture, gardening techniques, and environmental topics. Please visit our website for more details on this year's How to Series.

If you interest and experience lie on the administrative side, we have roles and committees that could suit you well.

Join us in nurturing a love for gardening in our community!

If you have any questions about membership or how you might find a volunteer role for yourself, please reach out and we will have someone contact you. info@notlhortsociety.com
