About Us & Benefits of Membership

The Niagara-on-the-Lake Horticultural Society

is one of the oldest horticultural societies in Ontario.

We are a volunteer-run, not-for-profit organization.

Our mission is to encourage the continual joy of learning about gardening.

We welcome everyone interested in gardening,

horticulture, and environmental stewardship.

We maintain about 200 registered members.

We continued to engage our members during the height

of the pandemic by presenting our speaker series virtually.

We are now back to resuming in-person meetings.

Please join us!  We look forward to meeting you!

  • Monthly Meetings - The Society hosts monthly meetings to educate members on a variety of horticultural topics and gardening techniques through speakers, generally experts in the field. Meetings take place on the fourth Tuesday of each month, January, February, March, April & May - and September, October & and November.  Our meetings usually take place at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Community Centre. See our past speakers and topics.

  • Annual Plant Sale - An annual outdoor plant sale in May, with many of the plants donated from our members' gardens.

  • Annual Garden Tour - The Society's renowned signature event, now in its 30th year, takes place in July and is open to the broader community to tour a variety of beautiful, private gardens in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Our tour attracts upwards of 1,000 visitors to town on the day of the tour.

  • Special Projects - The Society works with the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake and other groups to help support and create pollinator gardens, and community vegetable gardens, provide scholarships, and encourage respect for the environment.

  • Flowers for Seniors - During the winter holiday season, flower arrangements are created by our volunteers and delivered to seniors.

  • Field Trips - Each season, the Executive Board organizes a variety of horticulturally inspired field trips.

  • Volunteer Opportunities - We have many volunteer opportunities, including serving on the board, chairing an event, or helping with gardening projects. Meet our Board of Directors.

  • Loyalty Partners - We collaborate with several garden centres in the region that offer our members discounts on gardening products.

  • Newsletters - We publish regular newsletters to keep members informed and connected.
