in Memory of Our Dear Friend Joanne Young
This recent picture of Joanne shows her doing what she loved, teaching people about the joy and mystery of plants, horticulture and gardening. It seems fitting that she is surrounded by the photos that she took of wonderful plants and flowers she cherished.
It is with deep sadness and shock on this beautiful late summer day, that we learned the devastating news that our member and colleague and dear friend Joanne Young has suddenly passed away on September 11 2025.

Her sudden loss will leave an enormous gap in the gardening community in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Her classes, workshops and presentations both motivated and entertained attendees and inspired them to work in their gardens to build wonderful landscapes. Her hundreds of clients throughout Niagara-on-the-Lake and beyond relied on her great humour, her superb talents and the breadth and depth of her gardening and horticultural knowledge that allowed them to enjoy their gardens and surroundings.
The board and members of the Horticultural Society loved her dearly - her great humour and wit was the light of all our gatherings and meetings. I’m sure you will all agree with us that her friendship and kindness will be missed by everyone who knew her.
Details of her funeral arrangements are not yet known. When we learn this information, we will share it with everyone. The board will be discussing and planning for a memorial to remember Joanne here in Niagara-on-the-Lake this fall. More information will be forthcoming as soon as possible.
